1- Tell us about yourself: Where are you from? Where do you currently live?

I'm originally from North Carolina- but am slowly beginning to call New York home!  I moved to Brooklyn a little over 5 years ago, looking for a change of pace after college. New York has definitely been tough to adjust to, but it inspires me everyday. I have a hard time imagining leaving anytime soon.

2- Tell us about some of your hobbies and passions.

My day job involves a lot of  number crunching and sitting at a desk. In my spare time (when not making art!) I mostly want to be outdoors and moving my body. One of my favorite things is just to walk around different New York neighbourhoods. The culture, vibe and architecture changes so dramatically so quickly- it's amazing!

One of my favorite neighbourhoods recently has been the Rockaways. The beach culture there is so refreshing! Like a little slice of California.

I started surfing there with a bud last year. We're definitely still learning how to surf, but we're hooked! It has been such a de-stresser (and an amazing workout!)

3 - Tell us how did you get started and involved in art?

I'm a self taught artist - my collages initially started as letters and cards that I sent to friends and family.  Little love notes and 'thinking of you' that acted as handmade presents...and a much needed creative outlet.

With time, I started to want to make collages bigger and use different base materials. People started commenting on my work -  pushing me to reach out to venues and galleries to share them publicly. The amount of love and support that I've received surrounding my work has been really up lifting.  I've definitely realized the advantage of living in NYC as an artist  and am so so excited about projects I'm working on for the upcoming year.- especially my print collaboration with Akela Surf

4 - What do you like the most about the arts?

It's so eye opening and ever changing! I try to go to exhibits and openings often in New York. Seeing other people's work is really  inspiring and pushes me to think differently about my own work and technique.

5 - What are your dreams?

I just want to make the most of time- have no regrets!

My friend's joke with me about this "life list" that I always refer to. It's basically an imaginary, impossible list...that includes everything.  It's totally not realistic - but I'd like to try and experience everything at least once! Check it of the ol' life list. I tend to say yes to any event or invitation. Maybe I just have a bad case of FOMO (fear of missing out)?

6 - Who and what inspires you ?

I have some artists who I frequently look to and find inspiration from (Taylor McKimens, Wangechi Mutu, Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze, Paul Nudd, Dustin Yellin...)- but I've found that my biggest inspiration is my friends. I have such talented buds!  Their accomplishments and projects push me to question how I've been spending my time and what I should be working on.

7 - What do you like the most about being an artist ?

It's such a unique form of communication. Color, texture, material allow you to create a visual and evoke feeling that I really don't think that words can.

I can create a setting and a landscape that brings myself and an audience to a state that I couldn't bring myself/them to in any other way. I think that's really beautiful.

8- Anything you will like to share with us?

A photo of me surfing in our collaboration pieces! I'll share a pic as soon as I get a chance.
